Ka Hoʻokolokolo Kānaka Maoli – The Peoples’ International Tribunal Collection

The Peoples’ Tribunal was convened by Dr. Kekuni Blaisdell and organized by the Kānaka Maoli Tribunal Kōmike which engaged more than five-hundred people and sixty sponsors on five islands. This historic process empowered Kānaka Maoli and provided greater understanding of Indigenous peoples' rights under international law. Eight days of hearings by a panel of nine judges and three prosecutor-advocates were conducted. They reviewed both oral and written testimonies from Kānaka Maoli and other expert witnesses on five islands. Testimonies that had been submitted to the Tribunal as exhibits were loaned to the William S. Richardson School of Law for purposes of indexing and digitization and then returned to the family of Dr. Kekuni Blaisdell.
